Creating A Striking Look for A Magazine Editorial

Just last week I worked with the talented photographer Brendan Zhang and stylist Phuong My for an ELLE Vietnam shoot. We went with a simple but striking look for Chinese model Tan Ni

Here’s what I used to create this look on her (n.b. I cleaned up her lip line a little bit after this shot was taken)

Skin: Becca Skin Resurfacing Primer for a long-lasting, oil-free look

Foundation: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation – Since she has great skin, I only needed very little of this sheer foundation to even out some spots

Cheeks: Make Up For Ever Sculpting Kit

Eyes: Urban Decay Naked Basics Palatte – Use the lightest, brightest shades on the inner corner of the eyes to highlight them

And top off your lashes with L’Oreal Curl Impact Collagene Mascara

As for the boldest part of the face, the lips, I used a mix of MAC Cosmetic’s Russian Red (on the outer half of the lip), and MAC Cosmetics’s Ruby Woo (on the inner half of the lip), blending them together for seamless full red lip. For a long-wearing effect, I got the model to blot her lips once with a tissue, and then reapplied the lipstick. Full, strong colour!

You too can achieve this look, just be daring with colour while keeping your foundation fresh and natural!
